Rachel & Owen {married} South Wales Wedding Photography

I’ve been so excited to share this wedding with you… last month Rachel and Owen got married at the beautiful Pencoed House Estate near Cardiff. When I first met Rachel and Owen for a coffee in Park Street, Bristol, I warmed to them immediately. Firstly, Rachel’s absolutely gorgeous smile and warm personality greeted me and when she said she was excited to find me as so far she hadn’t had much luck finding the right wedding photographer until she typed ‘alternative’ into google and I came up, I immediately felt excited, knowing we’d be a great fit and they would really get my style of wedding photography!  Then Owen managed to drop an entire tray of drinks down the stairs… man, I really felt for the guy but it was rather endearing too! (sorry Owen!) Clumsiness was to feature as a theme in the speeches….:-)

When I arrived at the Copthorne Hotel, I was greeted with warmth and smiles from Rachel, her mum, sister and her best mate Rebecca. I also happened to discover that Rebecca is originally from Harrow in London, my home town, cue a bit of reminiscing about the old place, including the fact we both had frequented the Trinity Bar, my local for many a year!

Rachel and Owen’s wedding was one of those weddings I absolutely loved being a part of… it was fun, relaxed with lots of love and laughter all day. I also really loved Rachel’s boho style dress which was from Biba at House of Fraser.

I have to mention that the Pencoed House Estate is a beautiful and excellent wedding venue. The staff were so helpful, professional and friendly, totally on it and constantly making sure everything was ok and even making sure I was ok and asking whether I needed anything at any time. I highly recommend this place as a wedding venue!

Thanks so much for having me along guys… I wish you all the happiness and love in your future that you deserve x

February {a personal post}

To be honest, I didn’t take that many personal pictures in February.  After the excitement and freshness of the New Year, February seemed like a bit a slump… just a waiting game for this freezing cold to be over.   We don’t have double glazing and our floorboards are quite gappy, so the cold and wind seemed to come through the house more than ever this year.  Even with the heating on, I was still cold.  And there was more than one afternoon whilst Harry was at nursery  that I slipped under the 2 duvets in the bedroom for a nap and to escape the chills!!  So, I’m pretty glad it’s the 1st March and, fingers crossed, that at least if it’s not warm, it won’t be as chilly this month.

Here’s a little round up of my February…

I met up with my friend Laura and took some snaps of her in my local park…

You know, when they learn to crawl, walk and talk, they are all amazing milestones but the one that has fascinated and excited me possibly the most is the ability to play games, especially board games!  The capacity to understand the objectives and understand the rules and how to get from A to B and try and win has added loads of fun and ways of spending time especially on days when it’s too cold for a park visit.  Of course winning is paramount in Harry’s mind and I admit to a little bit of cheating to let him win on occasion…. Barney is not always so inclined though.. I suppose he’s more familiar with sibling rivalry (I’m an only child) so many a time I hear a tantrum kick off when daddy is thrilled to have beaten Harry!

A Sunday trip to the pub…

We’ve been in our little house in Bristol for nearly 3 years now … and much needs to be done.  2013 is the year for home improvements.  Funny how we both have different ideas of what should be tackled first!  Barney cracks on with wallpaper removal on the stairs…

One sunny and chilly afternoon with friends spent in the beautiful but still stark grounds of Ashton Court…

Hanging out in a church to practice shooting in low light and at At-Bristol with my mate Laura…

I’ve been having a little tea fetish recently.  Here’s my current favourite trio…

And the highlight of the month.. Rachel and Owen’s wedding.  Can’t wait to blog these soon..

Roll on March and warmer times.. 🙂

Becky Male - March 6, 2013 - 5:14 pm

Ahhh I love this little insight into your month. I must have a game of noughts and crosses with Harry too – promise I’ll let him win, Maybe!

Alexa Loy - March 1, 2013 - 5:07 pm

Super stunning photos Michelle, really loved this post x

Carlene & Tom {married}

Between Christmas and New Year I headed up to Prestbury for the wedding of Carlene and Tom.   It was certainly cold but the lovely thing about winter weddings are their cosy, Christmassy feel.   It was lovely to witness what a close and loving family they both have, and equally, what ace and fun friends came together to celebrate their special day.   I had so much fun photographing this wedding and capturing the emotion and love so clearly visible.  It was also lovely to randomly meet one of my future couples whose wedding I’ll be photographing in July!

Thanks for having me along guys and I hope you have a long and happy life together!

Nicola Light - February 14, 2013 - 3:21 pm

Laura {personal}

One of the best things about having toggy mates, apart from all the great advice, sharing tips and hours of endless geeky photography chat you get to do, is that when you say something like: ‘Hey, do you fancy popping to the local park so I can take some shots of you?’  They don’t recoil in horror….. well, only a little bit…… It also helps Laura is a super cool chick – love that hair! – and was happy to indulge me in having a bit of fun and practice with backgrounds and light.  It sounds a bit sad, but I just love doing things like this and getting home and having a bit of play with the editing… great fun!  Thanks Laura, for indulging me – again!  Laura is also an ace photographer.  Check out her work HERE.

Lauren Baker - February 20, 2013 - 8:13 pm

My life in January …

I know it’s not quite the end of January yet, but I’ve been kinda missing my little daily pictures so it feels quite exciting to get blogging again.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m relieved the 366 project is over and it’s been good to not have to pick up my camera every day, but in some ways I’ve been even more excited about shooting for myself, without pressure and just snap away, just for me.  Also this month I’ve been taking stock, thinking about my business, the packaging, branding, all the admin stuff and making sure I’m organised for the year ahead…. which is looking pretty damn good!!  Not long to go until Rachel and Owen’s wedding in February at beautiful Pencoed House…I can’t wait to get going and I’ve got this feeling about their wedding… that it’s going to be a pretty damn good one.

So here’s a little insight into my life in January…

We visited ‘my castle’, as Harry likes to call it.  It was built in 1553 and was most recently a place for people with mental health issues and now has been renovated into flats.  I rather like Harry’s idealistic vision of it, and kind of didn’t want to wander too close so he realised it was ‘just’ a block of flats now…

We visited a new park just next to St Phillip’s Cemetery, which is actually a very beautiful place to go for a walk…

We walked along the river at Conham…

I found an old polaroid of me at one of my Wimpy birthday parties… 🙂

My ace boy turned 4… the age he’s been wanting to be for the last.. um, year!

It snowed!!! Oh how we LOVED it the first couple of days………… and then we were bloody freezing all the time and wanted it to go…

Harry made me draw stick people of some of his favourite peeps..

We’ve had Bristol Water digging up our road for most of the month.  Annoying for parking but Harry loved all the digger action!

We started painting the bedroom…. oh how I love this blue… trying not to paint the whole house in it.  But it’s so calming and relaxing.

Me mucking around with the camera… I do this alot.

I bought another mustard scarf.. the old one is getting a bit worn and tatty.

I met up with the lovelies that are Alexa and Becky, 2 of my ace Shooting Sisters for some photography fun and gossip.  Love these girls…

We thought we’d head to a church to practice shooting in low light conditions and stumbled upon Clifton Cathedral.  A completely beautiful and rather unusual building designed around the hexagon shape.

Hope you enjoyed the little insight and I’m looking forward to what February will bring!

laura power - February 8, 2013 - 9:30 am

Gorgeous! wonderful family snow pics & becky & Alexa look beautiful under the natural cathedral light x

Lel - February 6, 2013 - 10:03 am

I love the way you edit, everything always looks gorgeous! Fabulous to see some recognisable and equally grogeous faces in there, and absolutely love the Wimpy picture! My grandad used to take me to wimpy so he could have a cigarette and I only ever wanted the badge and the ice cream at the end 🙂

Charlotte - January 29, 2013 - 9:07 pm

Love this Michelle! I heart the castle too! It is a significant site holding lots of memories off my journeys to Bristol to visit my dad over the years….made my heart jump to see it! I often imagined what it would be like to play on those hills! Also my cousin got married in clifton cathedral….lovely blog post bringing back lots of nostalgic memories for me! Hope you are well
, love Charlotte xxxx

My 2012 …

Here are some of the highlights from my epic year. I couldn’t have asked for a better year. I shot some brilliant weddings, second shot for some amazing photographers and completed a 366 project.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me this year and to my amazing couples and their families for being so ace and welcoming. Thank you to Barney – I am the creative one but he is the technical master, helping me with all the nuts and bolts of running a successful photography business. Thanks to all my amazing friends, old and new, including the Shooting Sister girls who are always there for support and advice. And to Alexa Dent, Becky Male, Joanna Brown, Kathryn Edwards for giving me the opportunity to second shoot for you this year.

And to Harry, for just being a general ball of brilliance, fun, love and gorgeousness… how did I create something so wonderful?!

Warning: it’s a bit long, but it’s been an amazing year!

And next year looks even bigger and better – yay!

xx
